Lot Essay

In 1983 Warhol created Fish as a backdrop for his painting exhibition Paintings for Children at Bruno Bischofberger in Zurich. The wallpaper transformed the gallery walls into an aquarium and recalls Warhol's earlier iconic installation of his Cow wallpaper at the Castelli Gallery in April 1966.
