Lot Essay

We are grateful to Mr. Fred Meijer of the RKD, The Hague, for endorsing the attribution upon inspection of the original (verbal communication, 18 September 2012). Mr. Meijer has suggested that the composition, known in several versions by different artists, perhaps records a lost prototype by Van Aelst.
