Folium (258 x 175mm). (Edges lightly yellowed.) Contemporary red leather preserving the original pink printed wrappers, sides ruled in blind, black and gilt, upper side centred with the Russian imperial eagle and lettered in gilt, white moiré-style doublures (label removed from front wrapper, extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: Alexander II of Russia (bookplate; pencilled shelf-mark '140/5') -- 'Printed in Russia' (small import stamp) -- ?Hammer Galleries, New York (label removed from front wrapper).
FIRST EDITION, ALEXANDER II'S OWN COPY of this poem composed on the 50th anniversary of his becoming chief of the Life Guards Hussars regiment. RARE: not in WorldCat or Copac.
