ST PETERSBURG -- DALMAS, Honoré Joseph (d. 1829). Epitre aux détracteurs des Grands-Hommes, a l'occasion de la Fête Séculaire de la Fondation de St. Pétérsbourg. St. Petersburg: at the Imperial Press, 1803.
8° (215 x 140mm). Engraved frontispiece portrait of Peter I by Klauber. Contemporary green silk, gilt border to sides (surface losses to the spine, without front free endpaper, corners rubbed). Provenance: Tsarskoe Selo (stamp) -- 'Printed in Russia' (import stamp).
THE TSARSKOE SELO COPY; a verse published on the occasion of the centenary of the foundation of St. Petersburg. Dalmas (also Delmas) came to Russia as a court actor, but made his name as a publisher of musical scores and as editor of the periodical 'Troubadour du Nord'; he is among the earliest translators of Pushkin into French. RARE: WorldCat locates only one copy, at the Anna Amalia Bibliothek.
