EARLY 20TH CENTURY
The first is modelled as a white-glazed Buddhist lion with bulging eyes and barred teeth, its curly mane and fur finely detailed, four-character impressed seal maker's mark Li yucheng zhi to the base; a lime-green glazed porcelain brushrest modelled as a scroll weight is decorated with a recessed rectangular panel depicting figures in a mountainous landscape, the underside with the three-character mark wu guo yu.

Lot Essay

Li Yucheng is known as a master of porcelain carving, active during the reigns of the Tongzhi and Guangxu Emperors (1862-1908).
