SCHUMANN'S FAUST AND SCHUBERT'S NINTH. The letter originally accompanied the dispatch of a set of part's for Schumann's Faust, and 'on the instructions of Mrs [Clara] Schumann', Brahms provides a list of the parts, so Otten can check if any are missing. The letter concludes with a happy reminiscence of a performance of a Schubert Duo in Hanover, as well as 'rehearsals and performance of the great Ninth!': 'Hier die gewünschten Faust-Stimmen. Dann gar Proben u. Aufführung der großen IX!'. Published in Fritz Callomon, 'Some Unpublished Brahms Correspondence', Musical Quarterly, 29/1 (January 1943), pp.32ff.
