BRAHMS, Johannes (1833-1897). Autograph letter signed ('J. Brahms') to [his friend Julius Otto Grimm], n.p. [Vienna], n.d. [early March 1890], inviting him to a choral concert in Cologne on the 13th at which he will hear 'all sorts of estimable choral music, a heap of motets by me, and a piece that must necessarily interest you', for Brahms has brushed off a trio from their youth (the op.8, which he had just revised) and 'if not given it a wig, at least combed and tidied its hair'; the prospect of seeing Grimm again makes him 'as happy as a snow-king', 2½ pages, 8vo, bifolium (minor spotting). Published in the Briefwechsel mit Julius Otto Grimm (Berlin, 1908), p.150.
