FRANKAU, Julia (1859-1916). An Eighteenth Century Artist and Engraver John Raphael Smith his Life and Works London: Macmillan and Co, 1902. 2° (605 x 440mm). Half-title, title with engraved vignette printed in colours on india and mounted, 49 mezzotint plates on india and mounted, some printed in colours, captioned tissue guards. (Without the accompanying text volume, minor spotting, mainly marginal.) Contemporary maroon three-quarter morocco over vellum, title lettered in gilt to upper cover, gilt spine, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers (extremities lightly rubbed, vellum lightly soiled). Provenance: Henry Walters Morrieson (engraved bookplate).

I. 2 coloured mezzotint frontispieces and 28 plates, 8 monochrome mezzotints, most with captioned tissue-guards, 37 engraved illustrations in text, some printed in bistre. (Occasional very light spotting and staining, mostly marginal.) Original vellum, covers and spines richly tooled in gilt with a repeating lotus flower design, top edges gilt, others uncut (lightly soiled, extremities lightly rubbed with tiny splits to joints).
