Lot Essay

According to Heesen (op. cit., p. 138), there are two other cups by the same painter and most likely the same potter, now in the Archaeological Museum of Taranto (nos. 6917 and 6921), with similar panthers around a central motif. For a similar running winged female on a cup attributed to the Amasis Painter see no. 217 in Heesen, op. cit.
