MIDDLE KINGDOM, DYNASTY XI, 2040-1991 B.C.
Sculpted in sunk relief, preserving a male in profile to the right seated on a low-back chair, with a lily projecting at the back of the seat, his left arm extending forward, his right resting on his lap holding a bolt of cloth, wearing a short kilt, a broad collar and a smooth wig, his oversized ear exposed, his face with an elongated eye, a gently-sloping nose and a smiling mouth, a monkey on all fours below, a vertical band of hieroglyphs before him, reading: "The God's-Servant("Prophet") Ptah-hotep," framed in a plain band on three sides
