A PAIR OF ROMAN GOLD EARRINGS
CIRCA 3RD CENTURY A.D.
Each with a conical shield centered by a granule framed by filigree wire, rimmed by filigree plain wire between two twisted wires, the tapering earwire at the back coiled around a loop above, with two granules at the join, the earwire supporting a drop pendant, a granule at the join, spirally fluted and embellished with granules, a large sphere and a pyramidal cluster of granules below; together with a pair of Roman gold earrings, circa 2nd-3rd century A.D., each with a plain ear hoop fronted by a hollow hexagonal cone
First pair: 1¾ in. (4.5 cm.) long
Second pair: 5/8 in. (1.6 cm.) long (4)
