A GOLD, SAPPHIRE, EMERALD SPINEL AND ENAMEL STRAP NECKLACE
CIRCA 6TH-7TH CENTURY A.D.
Composed of six lengths of interwoven loop-in-loop strap, the ends of each with ribbed caps, hinged to five box links, four with heart shaped cloisons at each corner filled with white enamel, the outer two each prong-set with a cabochon sapphire, the inner with a perforated pearl secured by wire, framed by plain wire and a ring of joined granules, each supporting a drop below composed of a conical element joined to a wire threaded through an emerald bead, the upper end framed by voluted straps, the central box link with a bezel-set rectangular cabochon emerald, an oval box below set with an irregular spinel, a similar drop below, with semicircular terminals, each side embossed with foliate motifs, the front with a small collar-set cabochon emerald, with a hook-and-loop closure
