PARIS, WITH THE DECHARGE MARK OF JULIEN ALATERRE 1768-1774
circular red and grey lacquer box, the detachable cover, sides and base painted with vertical bands of ribbon-twist columns alternating with flowerhead pattern bands and striped bands, the cover inset with a glazed oval miniature depicting a young lady facing right in low-cut white dress, upswept curled grey powdered hair within a bright-cut gold mount, the mount hinged to open and reveal a secret compartment containing the scrolling foliate gold initials 'SB' on a pink silk ground, within a pierced scrolling foliage mount, the gold rim on the cover stamped with trailing ribbons alternating with stylized flowerheads, the three other gold rims reeded, the inside lined with red and brown flecked composition
