Lot Essay

James Butler was born in London in 1931 and studied at Maidstone School of Art, St Martin's School of Art and the Royal College of Art. Elected a member to the Royal Academy of Arts in 1964, Butler's public commissions can be seen across the UK and worldwide, and he continues to make work for private clients on a smaller scale. He has always found inspiration in sculpting his wife, Angela and his five daughters.
