A PARCEL-GILT 'GRAPE AND SQUIRREL' OVAL SEAL BOX AND COVER
LATE MING/EARLY QING DYNASTY, 17TH CENTURY
The oval-shaped cover is decorated in parcel-gilt with a medallion on the top depicting a squirrel perched on a branch bearing grapes and leaves, against a dark punched ground. The rounded sides are further decorated with branches suspending grapes and leaves, repeated on the sides of the box. The base is inscribed with a Wenming mark within double-rectangles.
