A WHITE JADE PIERCED POMANDER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH/19TH CENTURY
The two shaped domed halves are intricately carved with a butterfly. Each segment of the body of the butterfly is carved to resemble a ruyi head, with the wings finely pierced with interlaced ringlets. The pomander is hung on a cord between a lapis lazuli bead with tiny pearl beads and a small coral ornament hanging beneath, and a green jade melon-form bead and a small white jade openwork floral pendant above.
