[REVOLUTIONARY WAR.] LAURENS, Henry. Autograph letter signed ("Henry Laurens"), to Thomas Day (1748-1789), Paris, 3 December 1782. 2pp., 4to, integral address leaf with seal remnant.

"I LONG TO SEE THE KING'S SPEECH," Laurens tells Day, "and to know something of the opening of Parliament," as negotiations ground on towards the Definitive Treaty of Peace between Britain and America. "I presented your compliments to Doctor Franklin, but he could not recollect you from the circumstance you desired me to mention, which the good Old gentleman regretted much, because he loves you for your writing. He read the Reflexions, as he informed me, last night with attention and pleasure." Day served as Laurens's private secretary and was a vocal champion of the American cause in his writings, such as his 1776 poem, "The Devoted Legions." He was also a disciple of Rousseau and a supporter of abolition.
