Lot Essay

Varley made a number of watercolours of the valley of the Mawddach
looking towards Llaneltyd Bridge, with Cader Idris on the left. All are to some extent idealised compositions. A large and faded view, now in
the Victoria & Albert Museum, may be Varley's Royal Academy exhibit of 1801, View of Cader Idris.
