Lot Essay

Schloss Wiederau, situated south of Leipzig, is one of the few Baroque castles preserved in this area of Saxony where many Historic buildings were sacrificed to open-pit mining in DDR times. The castle was built between 1697 and 1705.
The decoration scheme was baroque, the frescoes and ceilings were painted by Giovanni Francesco Marchini (1672-1745) in the first quarter of the 18th century. The present fragments would have probably been part of a complete wall panelling.
