A rare Chinese late Ming blue and white 'kraak porselein' saucer dish
Circa 1595-1605
Painted to the central roundel with birds in a flower-garden, the well and wavy flat rim decorated with fan-shaped panels enclosing flowers and insects, the reverse with alternating panels of ruyi and insects, the base painted with an egret mark
20.5 cm. diam.

Lot Essay

The egret mark has been recorded on about forty-five pieces of 'kraak' ware of a better quality than the average pieces. For a discussion of this type of 'kraak' porcelain, please refer to M. Rinaldi, Kraak Porcelain. A Moment in the History of Trade, London, 1989, pp. 195-208.
