Lot Essay

The medals on the present casket are not related to one another but were probably in the collection of the person who commissioned the casket. On the lid is a lion hunt after Valerio Belli; the others represent Julius Caesar, Virtue Uncovered by Vice after the Pseudo-Fra Antonio da Brescia, Cacus Stealing the Oxen of Hercules after Moderno and an allegorical scene, possibly Bacchus and Ariadne, after the Master IOFF.
