Lot Essay

The painting bears a label on the reverse with the following information: "14. Unknown, Circa 1770-1780, Woman with a bowl of cherries Found in a house in Canterbury, Connecticut. The wood of the panel dates from 1770. Possibly painted as a decoration or overmantel stylistically similar to the "Patroon" paintings of the Hudson River Valley."
