Lot Essay

A centre table with identical pewter inlay and identical carving was sold Sotheby's London, Important English Furniture, 22 November 2006, lot 118 (£8500 plus premium).
Louis Le Gaigneur and Thomas Parker were the two leading English exponents of inlaid 'buhl' furniture during the early 19th century. Both men were patronised by the Prince of Wales (later King George IV) who led the revival of the 'Old French' style popularised by Andre-Charles Boulle a hundred years before.
