With a pair of reeded loop handles and a pair of ring handles, dated 1653 and decorated with a fleur-de-lys on a shield
6 in. (15 cm.) high; 7½ in. (19 cm.) diameter

The author describes it as the earliest dated mortar recorded for this founder. In common with the other 1653 mortar discussed by Finlay it also has a decorative floral panel to the reverse
