A CARVED PALE BLUE GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE

The flattened pear-shaped bottle is carved in relief on both sides through the bubble-suffused glass with a pair of confronted chilong.
2½ in. (6.4 cm.) high, pink quartz stopper

Lot Essay

Chi dragons are amongst the most popular imperial designs on snuff bottles during the Qing dynasty, representing the emperor as a dragon. Because they were depicted without a specific numbers of claws they could be distributed as prestigious gifts of an imperial nature without breaking protocol.
