A GREENISH-GREY JADE ARCHAISTIC FACETED VASE, FANGGU
LATE MING DYNASTY, 16TH-17TH CENTURY
There are openwork dragon-scroll flanges at the corners and notched flanges in the center of each side that divide upright blades and masks on the flared neck, taotie masks on the center section, and inverted blades on the foot. The semi-translucent, greenish-grey stone has some brown and opaque buff inclusions, and is highly polished.
7 7/8 in (20 cm.) high, wood stand

Lot Essay

This fanggu is similar to one in the Qing Court collection, which is also dated to the Ming dynasty and illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 41 - Jadeware (III), Hong Kong, 1995, pp. 224-5, no. 179.
