TWO WHITISH JADE BELT FITTINGS
19TH CENTURY
The hinged, movable center of each fitting is carved in openwork: one with a bat suspending a chime between two bats, while the two remaining bats of the wufu flank the ruyi-shaped loop; the other is carved as an open basket of lotus and lingzhi and a ruyi-shaped loop.

Lot Essay

The combination of an open box (he) with lotus (he) and fungus (lingzhi) seen on the second fitting forms the wish (hehe ruyi), 'May you have a harmonious marriage, and may all your wishes come true.' The motif was popluar for weddings.
