A WHITE JADE SHAPED RECTANGULAR PENDANT PLAQUE
18TH/19TH CENTURY
One side is carved in low relief with a boy running with a halberd in his right hand, and on the reverse with a square seal, jixiang (auspiciousness), and on both sides with an outer scroll border. The semi-translucent stone is of even white color.

Lot Essay

The word for halberd, ji, shares the same pronunciation with auspiciousness, and coupled with the stylized ruyi clouds at the top, the motif conveys the auspicious wish jixiang ruyi, 'May everything be auspicious, and may all your wishes come true.'
