TWO SMALL WHITE AND RUSSET JADE FRUIT-FORM PENDANTS
18TH/19TH CENTURY
One is carved in the round as three mandarin oranges borne on a leafy branch, with areas of pale russet color on the sides of two of the fruit, and the curved body of a bird carved around the side of the third orange. The smaller pendant is carved as a large and two small persimmons combined with a small bat and a stem of lingzhi. There is russet color on the bottom of the largest fruit.

Lot Essay

Mandarin oranges (daju) are plentiful during the lunar New Year and when pronounced daji, is a pun for 'good fortune.'
Three persimmons, lishi sanbei, represent the wish, 'may your business enjoy a threefold prosperity,' and persimmons when combined with lingzhi represent the wish, shishi ruyi, 'may everything be as you wish.'
