VERY RARE FIRST EDITION of this important epic poem, praised by Cervantes in Don Quixote (I, 6) as one of the finest works of heroic verse ever published in Spanish. Dedicated to the Queen of Bohemia and Hungary, it is divided into twenty-four cantos, most relating to the Moorish rebellion in Granada, while several others describe the battle of Lepanto. Introductory sonnets by Cervantes, Luis de Vargas, Diego de Rozas Manrique, and Luis de Gongora are included. Cervantes and Rufo were life-long friends, and born in Cordoba the same year.
