'PRIMERA éDICION, MUY RARA de este libro curiosa' (Palau). Pérez de Herrera's verse work contains 759 proverbs, 311 enigmas with a prose commentary, and a further 12 enigmas without commentary. Medical advisor to Philip III, a writer on medicine and social welfare, he used his wealth to establish a poor house in Madrid. Salvá believed there might have been an earlier edition of the Proverbs in about 1613, but no copies are known. Goldsmith P-215; Salva II, 2124; Palau XIII, 221124.
