Half-titles, engraved frontispieces after Monnet and de la Tour, 55 engraved plates, engraved head- and tail-pieces throughout. Scarlet morocco by Chambolle-Duru, later gilt supralibros, spines richly gilt in compartments, gilt turn-ins and edges, silk ribbon markers. Provenance: purchased from Ch. Bosse, 1926.

A particularly handsome set, with the plate facing p.122 (dated 1777) depicting the flight from the monkeys in Candide in the 'découverte' state, showing the two young women naked.
