AN UNUSUAL DATED BRONZE FIGURE OF A DEER
INSCRIBED SUMMER OF THE FOURTH YEAR GUANGXU (1879), AND OF THE PERIOD
The deer, its body detailed with tiny scattered florets, is cast standing four-square with head turned backwards atop a rectangular pedestal cast on the long sides with the Eight Daoist Emblems, anbaxian, and at the ends and on top with archaistic foliate dragon pattern reserved on a diaper ground. One long side is inscribed with the date, the other side with the name of the follower, Huang Longzhang.
