Each elaborate lantern is made in three sections: a pedestal base with balustrades around the lower and upper faceted platforms; a central lantern, its four main sides inset with four gilt-metal openwork lattice panels; and a cover shaped as the two tiled roofs of a pagoda, with dragon-head 'tiles' at the corners and a bud-shaped finial.
