A PAIR OF EMBROIDERED GAUZE CIVIL OFFICIAL'S RANK BADGES OF A GOOSE, BUZI
QIANLONG/JIAQING PERIOD (1736-1820)
Made for a civil official of the fourth rank, each is worked in counted stitch with a goose (yunyan) facing the sun as it stands on one leg on a rock emerging from froth-capped rolling waves scattered with 'precious objects' below lingzhi-shaped clouds reserved on a ground of wan diaper, all within a lotus scroll border outlined in couched gold thread. The design is picked out in shades of blue, coral, white and yellow.
