AN EMBROIDERED SATIN CIRCULAR WOMAN'S RANK BADGE OF A GOLDEN PHEASANT
LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY
Made for the wife of a civil official of the second rank, the badge is worked in satin stitch with a golden pheasant (jinji) facing the sun shown amidst flowers and clouds as it stands atop waves and a lishui stripe within an outer border of ruyi heads and chrysanthemum sprays reserved on an angular scroll band. The design is picked out in bright shades of purple, pink, blue, red, green, turquoise, gold and orange.
