4o (223 x 164 mm). Title with engraved architectural border with figures, 12 engraved portraits of the emperors and 62 full-age plates each containing twelve spaces for coins or medals, most of the spaces filled but some left blank, by Enea Vico. Contemporary green limp vellum. Provenance: acquired from Marborough Rare Books, 1972.

FIRST EDITION, issue with "Libro primo" on the title. "The volume was conceived as a book of plates, each section having the portrait-cartouche (on the verso of the lead, recto blank or printed with the last of the preceding group of coin plates) followed by one or two leaves of text set in type (numbered at the foot 1-12; nos. 1 and 2 have two leaves), and by the coil plates recto and verso of the leaf" (Mortimer). In 1553, Paolo Manuzio published a Latin translation with the same plates considererably altered. Adams Z-68; Berlin Kat. 4233; Cicognara 3055; Mortimer Italian 556.
