SIGNED ZAYN AL-'ABDIN, QAJAR IRAN, DATED AH 1225/1810-11 AD
Of rectangular form with curved ends and sliding tray, the top decorated with polychrome naskh on black ground with certain words highlighted and forming a cartouche, the sides with two lines of elegant muhaqqaq in gold on black ground, sides with bands of scrolling flowering vine, the underside with scrolling flowering vine in gold on red ground and signature, minor chips to edges at either end

Around the sides, the call on God to bless the 14 innocents
On the bottom, harrarahu al-mutamassik bi-wala' amir al-mu'minin zayn al-'abidin fi sana 1225,'The one who holds fast to faith in the Commander of the Faithful, Zayn al-'Abidin wrote it in year 1225'

A mirror case signed by Zayn al-'Abdin is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (acc.no.2009.170).
