Pen and ink on paper heightened with gouache and gold, depicting an elegant turbaned figure, set within gold and polychrome floral illuminated margins with stylised cloudbands and intricately formed palmettes, an inscription cartouche and date on the lower side of the margin

Inscription: The inscription on the mount reads: bar hasb farman-e hazrat-e asrhraf-e aqdas-e arfa'-e vala, Mu'ayyad al-Dawla, farman-farmay-e mamlekat-e Khorassan va Sistan va motevallibashi astan-e malayek pasban, adam allah-wa ta'ala iqbalahu wa ijlalahu tadhhib nemud Ahmad, modhaheb bashiy-e astan-e Qods, 'By the order of his Excellency, the most noble, sanctified, high ranking, and dignified, Mu'ayyad al-Dawla, the governor of the provinces of Khorassan and Sistan, and the superintendent of the Astan-e Qods, [the shrine of the 8th Imam], may God the most exalted, perpetuate his fortunes and munificence; illuminated this, Ahmad, the head illuminator of the Astan-e Qods'
