A KUTAHYA POTTERY DISH
OTTOMAN TURKEY, 18TH CENTURY
On short rounded foot with wide sides and slightly everted rim, the white ground painted in bole-red, cobalt-blue, yellow, green and manganese purple, the centre with a large rosette surrounded by band of floral vine with large floral blooms surrounded on both sides by minor blue bands, rim with stylised floral blooms, exterior with stylised vine and a band of scrolling floral vine on the underside of the rim, intact with small area of fritting
8¾in. (22.3cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

A very similar dish with strong bole-red flowers decorating the rim is in the Kalfayan Collection and dated to the 18th century (Aspects of Armenian Art: The Kalfayan Collection, exhibition catalogue, Athens 2010, pl.17, p.42).
