AN ELEPHANT-HEADED GILT-COPPER AND ROCK-CRYSTAL HILTED DAGGER (PESH-KABZ)
POSSIBLY KUTCH, INDIA, 19TH CENTURY
With watered-steel blade of typical long tapering shape, the gold-damascened decoration with floral spray to the bridge and interlocking foliated palmettes to the hilt, the original hilt replaced with a rock-crystal grip and the pommel in the form of an elephant head, possibly added later
