FIRST ISSUE OF VOLUME XI WITH THE TEN MEDICAL PLATES. In addition to the works of Hippocrates, the major works of Galen, who substantially contributed to the Hippocratic understanding of pathology, are to be found here. Galen's principle interest was human anatomy, and among his major contributions to the field of medicine were his work with the circulatory and nervous systems. Influenced by Plato, Aristotle and the Stoics, he also wrote about logic and philosophy. Volumes II to V, and XIII are re-issues, with imprint dates altered from 1639 to 1679 by cancel slips, whilst volume IX is, according to Krivatsy, incorrectly dated 1689. Welcome III, p.269; Krivatsy 5624; Brunet III, 171.
