Lot Essay

This panoramic view of Macao, looking from the tip of the peninsula, shows Inner Harbour to the left, Macao with the isthmus linking it to the mainland beyond, and the Praya Grande to the right. For similar views, see the larger work in Martyn Gregory, The China Trade, 1996, cat. no. 69, no.98 (illustrated on the catalogue cover), and another in the Hong Kong Museum of Art, for which see Hong Kong Museum of Art, Scenes of two cities: Hong Kong and Macau, Hong Kong, 1983, no.32.
