Lot Essay

The fly first appeared as a jewellery element during the Second Intermediate Period, circa 1650-1550 B.C. Initially a military decoration awarded for a soldier's bravery, it became popular in jewellery of the New Kingdom. Fly pendants have been found in the tomb of Queen Ahhotep, circa 1560-1530 B.C.
