A GREEK GOLD SPIRAL EARRING
CLASSICAL PERIOD, CIRCA 5TH CENTURY B.C.
Composed of sheet gold over a bronze core, with one and a quarter turns with lion head terminals, with open jaws and naturalistically modelled mane; and another with three and a half turns, sheet gold over a bronze core, possibly a hair ring, with remains of female head terminal, the other terminal in the form of a rosette with central grain
Largest: 1½ in. (3.8 cm.) long

Private collection, UK, acquired prior to 1975; thence by descent to the present owner.
