Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with raised gold hour markers in 1946 and its subsequent sale on 2 October 1947. Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe original fitted box.

The watch offered here for the first time ever at auction, does not only impress by its captivating aesthetics and excellent overall condition but equally by its technical complexity. In fact, it is fitted with the celebrated calibre 12''' SC movement with indirect centre seconds. This ébauche was the result of the collaboration between Victorin Piguet and Patek Philippe, where the centre seconds mechanism was ingeniously added to the existing 12'''120 "subsidiary seconds" movement.

The present watch is thought to be one of only five examples of reference 570 in pink gold with indirect sweep centre seconds known to date.Furthermore, this watch is believed to be one of only three pink gold "five-seventy" with sweep centre seconds form the first series with such an attractive two-tone pink dial.

The large Calatrava model reference 570 was introduced into the market in 1938, featuring either subsidiary or sweep centre seconds. It was available in stainless steel, yellow, pink and white gold and platinum.
