A WHITE JADE CARVING OF AN ELEPHANT WITH BOYS
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
The stone is naturalistically carved in the form of a standing elephant with the head turned to one side, and with a boy climbing on its back holding flowers and a yin yang symbol. Another boy stands behind the elephant, carrying a tall staff. The base of the carving is finely detailed with swirling waves. The stone is of an even white colour, with the russet skin used to highlight the back of the elephant and one boy.
3 3/8 in. (8.5 cm.) wide

A private English collection formed from the 1960s onwards.
