A WHITE JADE 'RAMS' GROUP
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
The stone is finely carved to depict a recumbent ram beside its two young, one climbing onto its back and the other kneeling at its front legs. The stone is of an exceptionally even white tone.
3¼ in. (8.2 cm) wide

A private English collection formed from the 1960s onwards.

Specialist note

The three rams are an auspicious Chinese symbol of happiness and good fortune. They provide a rebus for san yang kai tai, prosperity in springtime.
