Inscribed Chikamitsu saku and stamped Ginsei Hattori [made of silver by Hattori], Meiji period (early 20th century)
The black-lacquered body entirely covered on sides and lid with pierced silver sheet with stylised flowering plum motifs, the interior of padded brocade silk with a stylised dragon pattern

Lot Essay

The silver craftsman was probably Kobayashi Chikamitsu, thought to have died between 1900 and 1920.1 The Hattori clock company, in Tokyo, commissioned many presentation boxes during the early 20th century.
