Signed and impressed Kinkozan zukuri and Ikko ga, Meiji period (late 19th century)
Each finely decorated in various coloured enamels and gilt on cream ground, five dishes depicting various scenes of young women and five depicting courtesans at leisure
Each 18.7cm. diam. (10)

Lot Essay

This fine set of dishes depict scenes from everyday life of young ladies, mothers and courtesans. Four of them illustrate a mother playing with her children with various toys including denden-daiko [pellet drum], Okame mask and a rare depiction of a nozoki-karakuri [peep show].
